Three dogs. Three rooms. Three toppers. We tested the Omlet Topology Dog Bed to see if it lives up to its premium reputation — and to find out which topper our dog testers actually preferred.
Most dog beds promise comfort, but fall short on longevity, hygiene, or design. Some flatten in weeks. Others are awkward to clean. And very few look like something you’d actually want in your home. Omlet claims to have solved all that — with a modular system built around orthopaedic support, washable zip-on toppers, and customisable feet that lift the bed off the floor. So we put it to the test: three very different dogs, all three topper styles, and real-world daily use over several weeks.
💡 Here’s what worked, what didn’t — and why this might be the first dog bed that genuinely earns its price tag.
Omlet Topology Bed
- Excellent memory foam base with real joint support
- Topper system makes cleaning and restyling easy
- Stylish enough for any living space
- Genuinely durable and well-built
- Choice of feet adds height & airflow benefits
- Price climbs quickly once you add extras
- Bolster topper reduces internal space
- You’ll probably want more than one topper (which adds up)

Why We Wanted to Try the Topology Bed
Omlet sent us their Topology Dog Bed to review — and right away, it stood out. Most dog beds force a compromise between style and function. This one claimed to deliver both — and more:
- Orthopaedic memory foam for long, joint-friendly naps
- A modular design with interchangeable, zip-on toppers
- The option to add elevated feet, turning it from floor mat to furniture
- And crucially: everything is machine washable — even the toppers (just remove the inner cushion from the Bolster first)
What really caught our interest was the promise that this isn’t just a bed — it’s a long-term setup you can adapt over time. Want a new texture? Swap the topper. Muddy paws? Zip it off. Dog’s sleeping style changed? So can the bed.
To put that promise to the test, we trialled it with three different dogs — each with their own quirks, habits, and sleep preferences:
- Hector the Frenchie — comfort connoisseur
- Champ the Terrier — prefers structure and security
- Morris the Cavapoochon — a little more cautious with change
We tested the Medium size with Metal Rail Feet, rotating between the Bolster, Sheepskin, and Quilted toppers over several weeks.
What Makes the Omlet Topology Dog Bed Different?
The Topology system is designed to be more than just a nice-looking bed. It aims to fix some of the common frustrations dog owners have — and it’s doing it in a way we hadn’t really seen before.
Here’s what it offers:

Setup & First Impressions
The Topology bed arrived in two boxes and one polybag, clearly labelled and easy to unpack. Assembly was quick and straightforward. The memory foam mattress and base board both zip neatly into the main cover — creating the core structure of the bed — and from there, it’s just a case of attaching the metal rail feet and zipping on your chosen topper. All in, setup took around 10 minutes using a standard screwdriver.
Once assembled, it felt solid and well-built. The raised design gave it a smart, low-profile look — more like a mini daybed than a typical dog mat. We tested it in both the bedroom and lounge, and in both rooms it blended easily with the furniture. Definitely the most “interior-friendly” dog bed we’ve ever tested.
The zip-on topper system impressed us immediately. Once zipped in, it felt tight and secure — no bunching or movement, even with digging or shifting. It’s one of those small design features that makes a big difference day to day.
Testing the Bed with 3 Different Dogs
We rotated the Topology bed between three very different dogs — all with unique preferences and sleeping styles. What we learned is that while the memory foam base and raised design were popular across the board, the topper you choose makes a big difference.
Hector – French Bulldog

Hector claimed the bed immediately and barely gave the others a chance. As a comfort-seeker who loves to sprawl or rest his head, he switched between two favourites:
- On the Bolster, he’d rest his chin on the edge or perch to look out the window.
- On the Sheepskin, he’d sprawl out and fully melt into it — the most relaxed we’ve ever seen him on a flat bed.
✅ Topper Verdict for Hector:
A toss-up between Sheepskin for maximum comfort and Bolster for structure + head support
Champ – Terrier

Champ was all about the Bolster. A natural curl-up sleeper, he loved the enclosed, supportive feel — climbing straight in and tucking himself into the corner.
The Sheepskin and Quilted toppers didn’t have the same appeal. He tested them briefly, but clearly preferred a bed with structure and sides.
✅ Topper Verdict for Champ:
Bolster was the standout — ideal for dogs that like to curl up and lean into edges.
Morris – Cavapoochon

Morris was more hesitant overall — a little cautious at first, though he did give it a go. He’s definitely larger than the average Cavapoochon and the medium size felt snug for him, especially with the Bolster topper, which reduces usable surface area.
We suspect he’d be more comfortable with a large bed and a flat topper — likely the Sheepskin — that allows for full-body stretching.
✅ Topper Verdict for Morris:
Sheepskin might be better — but in a larger size to accommodate his frame.
What About the Quilted Topper?

We tested it less frequently than the others — not because it was lacking, but simply because the other two were more appealing to the dogs.
- The Quilted topper has a flatter, more practical surface.
- It feels slightly more durable and may be ideal for muddy paws or for households where frequent cleaning is a priority.
- It’s still padded and well-made — just not quite as plush or eye-catching.
Topper Verdict:
✅ A solid, low-maintenance option for high-traffic or high-mess households — just not the most exciting one for our testers.
💡 Each topper completely changes how the bed feels and looks — it’s like swapping between a cosy sofa, a plush rug, and a practical mat.
Topper Comparison – Style, Comfort & Cleaning
While the memory foam base does the heavy lifting, it’s the modular topper system that makes this bed stand out. The ability to zip off the entire top layer and switch to another style — in seconds — is the kind of small feature that changes day-to-day life with dogs.
It means you can adjust the bed to suit different dogs, different rooms, or different seasons — without needing to replace the whole thing. We tested all three available toppers: Sheepskin, Bolster, and Quilted. Each brought something genuinely different to the experience.

🐑 Sheepskin Topper – Softest & Most Luxurious
The Sheepskin topper is by far the softest of the three. It has a gentle, fleece-like surface that feels plush to the touch and gives the bed a more laid-back, cloud-like look. Dogs who love to stretch out and fully relax took to this one straight away.
- Warm, cosy and fleece-soft — perfect for lounging
- Adds comfort without adding structure or sides
- Looks particularly good in lounges or bedrooms
✅ Best For: Dogs that sprawl, stretch, or like to melt into softness
💬 Our take: It’s the softest dog bed topper we’ve ever tested. Hector looked totally at home on it.
🛋️ Bolster Topper – Stylish & Supportive
This one transforms the bed completely — turning it into a raised-sided nest with three supportive walls. It adds shape, structure, and a more deliberate, sofa-like appearance. Our curl-up testers loved leaning into it.
- Raised edges for heads, tails, or tucked-up paws
- Great for dogs who like to feel secure or enclosed
- Reduces the usable floor space slightly (worth noting for sizing)
✅ Best For: Curlers, leaners, and dogs who like the security of sides
💬 Our take: Made the bed feel like a piece of furniture — Champ was in his element
🧼 Quilted Topper – Practical & Understated
The most minimalist of the three — but not in a bad way. The Quilted topper is flatter, firmer, and easier to maintain, making it ideal for high-traffic spaces or dogs with a bit more mud on their paws.
- Easier to wipe or brush off in between washes
- A good choice for utility spaces or near exits
- Slightly firmer feel than the other two, but still cushioned
✅ Best For: Practical setups, mess-prone dogs, or high-traffic zones
💬 Our take: Not the showstopper, but dependable. Ideal to have as a backup or everyday topper.

💡 Being able to zip off the entire topper in seconds? Genuinely brilliant. It’s one of those small design touches that makes you wonder why every bed doesn’t work this way.
🧺 Cleaning & Care Instructions

All three toppers are machine washable and surprisingly easy to maintain:
- Bolster: remove the inner cushion before washing
- Sheepskin & Quilted: can be washed as-is on a gentle cycle
- Mattress Cover: Fully removable and washable — protects the foam from dirt, odours, and accidents
- All toppers zip off and back on easily thanks to Omlet’s zip system — a small detail that makes a big difference

Quick Tip
Keep a second topper on standby so your dog always has a bed during washes.

Elevated Design: What the Feet Actually Do

The Topology bed can be used flat on the floor — but adding feet changes the game entirely. We chose the metal rail feet to complete the look, and they didn’t just elevate the bed literally — they elevated the entire vibe of the space.
Once raised, the bed looks far less like a “dog thing in the corner” and more like a deliberate part of the room. The metal rails we tested added a clean, modern edge, but there are other styles available if you prefer wood or more rounded finishes. We also really liked the non-scratch pads on the feet, to protect your floors and keep the bed from sliding.
But this design choice isn’t just about looks.
Why Raising the Bed Actually Matters:
It’s worth noting that adding feet slightly increases the overall footprint of the bed, but not in a way that made any impact on our space. In fact, we preferred how it looked once it was lifted off the floor — it felt more finished, more thought-through, and honestly, more deserving of the premium price tag.
Comfort & Quality: Does It Hold Up?

We’ve lived with the Topology bed for several weeks now, and unlike most dog beds that start to show wear quickly, this one has held its shape — and its appeal — without compromise.
The memory foam base is genuinely supportive — the kind that doesn’t just survive daily use but holds up with a kind of springy resistance you usually only find in human-grade mattresses. The base felt rock-solid — no wobble, no creaking, no shifting across the floor. Even when our testers jumped straight onto it, it stayed completely stable. No noise, no fuss, no complaints from the dogs. You can tell this isn’t just a padded cushion — it’s a properly engineered base, and it’s doing the heavy lifting that gives the toppers their impact.
We also didn’t see any signs of the toppers wearing down — no sagging, no loose stitching, no fraying around the zip edges. Even with repeated nesting, digging, and turning, they’ve kept their shape and finish.
Visual Appeal That Lasts
Beyond comfort, what stood out was how presentable the bed still looked after daily use. Most dog beds become “that scruffy thing in the corner” over time. This one didn’t. It still looked like a proper piece of homeware — even after being dragged between rooms and subjected to wet paws and toy chewing sessions nearby.
More importantly, it also passed what we call the “dig test” — Champ is a notorious bed-scratcher, and not once did the material rip, bunch, or pull loose. Every stitch stayed put.
It’s the kind of product that feels like it was built to last — and the 2-year warranty from Omlet backs that up.
Compared to Other Beds We’ve Used:
In short: it doesn’t just look premium, it behaves like a premium product over time. That’s a hard balance to strike.
💡 After weeks of daily use, it still looked like something we’d just set up.
Sizing Tips & What We’d Change

We tested the medium-sized Topology bed with the Bolster, Sheepskin and Quilted toppers — and overall, it was a great fit for two of our testers. Hector (11kg) and Champ (7.5kg) both had plenty of space to stretch, curl, and shift positions comfortably.
That said, for Morris (Cavapoochon) — who’s slightly larger and fluffier — the medium felt a bit snug, especially with the Bolster topper in place. The raised edges reduce the usable space inside the bed, so it’s worth factoring that in when choosing a size.
📏 Quick Sizing Reference (Omlet’s Guide)
- Small: 62.5cm x 47cm x 9cm
- Medium: 85.5cm x 55.5cm x 12cm
- Large: 105.5cm x 71.5cm x 15cm

Quick Tip
If your dog is on the borderline between two sizes, or you’re planning to use a raised-edge topper like the Bolster, we’d recommend sizing up.
What We’d Change (If Anything)
To be honest, there’s very little we’d adjust — but if we had to be picky:
- More internal space with the Bolster topper. The trade-off with that lovely sofa-like feel is a smaller sleep area. It’s worth knowing before you buy — especially if your dog likes to sprawl.
- Topper pricing adds up. They’re well-made and worth it, but it’s tempting to want more than one — a bundle or multipack option would make sense.
- More visual cues to help with sizing. Omlet’s sizing guide is solid, but more photos of real dogs on each bed would help shoppers make more confident choices.
That said, none of these are dealbreakers — and if anything, they’re reminders that this isn’t your average dog bed. It’s more like a customisable setup that grows with your dog and your space.
Final Verdict: Is It Worth the Price?
Let’s be clear — the Omlet Topology Dog Bed sits firmly in the premium bracket, especially once you add feet and a plush topper (or multiple toppers!) But once it’s in place, the difference is immediately obvious.
It’s not just a better dog bed. It’s a smarter one — built to solve the everyday annoyances most pet beds don’t even try to address. It supports where it should, looks good where it matters, and holds up in the ways you actually need.
🏆 Why We Think It’s Worth It:
We’ve used a lot of dog beds over the years — some looked nice but didn’t last, others were practical but completely uninspiring. The Omlet Topology is the first we’ve tested that manages to feel like a permanent upgrade, not just a product.
It combines smart design with genuine day-to-day benefits: real support from the base up, styling that fits into any home, and a modular system that’s easy to adapt or refresh over time.
If you’ve spent years buying dog beds that sag, shed, and lose their shape — with zips that break in the first wash and covers that never fit quite the same again — the Topology is the first one that genuinely feels different. It’s solid, supportive, and built with the kind of thought most pet products just don’t get. It fits in with your home, holds up to real daily use, and does what it promises. It’s not cheap — but it’s absolutely worth it.
